What You Need to Know About the Royal Air Force Museum

“Never was so much owed by so many to so few” Churchill’s famous words after the Battle of Britain echo through the ages. If it wasn’t for the brave men of the RAF then undoubtedly the Second World War would have had a very different outcome.

It’s only right, then, that everyone in the UK has some appreciation of the RAF, what they have done and what they continue to do for us all.

Museums are important spaces. Not only are they places where one can encounter new cultures but they are also important educational places. What better place to learn about the prestigious history of the RAF than the Royal Air Force museum.

The London branch of the RAF museum is sited on the former RAF Hendon. This means that it is able to house over 100 aircraft. The other branch is in Cosford in the Midlands, which can house 70 aircraft displays.

It’s not all about the aircraft themselves, Spitfires and Hurricanes, but all the media associated with the RAF, medals, photographs, artwork or correspondence.

As well as the museum itself, the RAF museum also has a very extensive gift shop, also accessible online, through which you can buy all sorts of RAF-related gifts and other paraphernalia. This is not only great for air force enthusiasts but also for anyone who has an interest in this very important dimension of our history.
